Then the two-year nursing assistant training programme could be something for you. Both the academic content and the practical part of the programme will give you an insight into the broad field of work.

Shortening your training
There are four ways in which you can shorten your training by one year
1. Option:
You have successfully completed a two-year vocational school – nutrition, home economics and care (or similar vocational training).
2. Option:
You have at least a secondary school leaving certificate I – Hauptschulabschluss (or equivalent level of education) AND
have worked full-time as a care assistant for one year.
OR
have completed one year full-time as part of the Federal Voluntary Service in the care-related sector.
OR
have worked for at least three years as a volunteer in the care service of the civil protection organisation.
3. Option:
You have completed at least two years of vocational training and can provide evidence of at least three years of professional experience.
4. Option:
You have a degree in a vocational training programme lasting at least two years and have subsequently taken part in a qualification in everyday care (at least 160 teaching hours) and have worked in everyday care for at least two years.

Theoretical training
During your training, you will learn about the nursing and domestic care of children, adults and senior citizens and how to look after them. You then decide where you would like to work. Care assistants are employed in all areas and age groups of nursing, care and support for people. Due to this great demand, the possibilities for your work assignments are diverse! After your training, you have the opportunity to shorten the three-year generalist training programme by one year.

1800 hours of theoretical lessons
Lessons in the subjects:
Occupational area: work and relationship processes, supporting people, caring for people
people, care of people
Occupational area: English, German, maths, politics, religion, sport

960 hours of practical work
Possible areas are:
Hospitals, care facilities, outpatient care services, workshops for people with disabilities for people with disabilities and many more. The field of activity is care,
and care of people of all ages.
Theory and practice alternate on a weekly basis.
Admission requirements
Anyone with a secondary school leaving certificate or an equivalent level of education can be accepted onto the nursing assistant training programme.
After successfully completing the training programme, graduates can be accepted into the 2nd year of training to become a nursing assistant.
Costs / funding opportunities
The nursing assistant training programme is tuition-free!
There are also various funding options, e.g. via the ‘Agentur für Arbeit’ or ‘Schüler-BAFöG’. We will be happy to advise you individually.
